The Great War by bike

This learning journey takes students back to a not-so-distant past, whose traces are still visible in both the landscape and local memory. We will explore places that once housed military fortifications, defensive positions, and other structures that bear witness to the challenges faced when the Venice Lagoon became a theatre of war.

As we travel along embankments, shores, and fishing valleys, students will hear the stories of soldiers and civilians who lived through a time of conflict, balancing life with the water, the need for protection, and a strong sense of duty. Along the way, we will observe ruins, lookout posts, and traces preserved in the land and historic structures, revealing stories of strategy, hardship, hope, and resilience.
