Rocks, Fossils and Minerals
Through touch, sight, and imagination, we will discover the basics of geology in a fun and engaging way. We will travel through time to understand how the Venice Lagoon was formed, observe the remains of ancient animals, and explore the process of mineralization.
Finally, we will become little paleontologists by creating a fossil with our own hands.

What we will do
- We will step into history with an outdoor reading, to approach the topics of geology and the formation of the Venice Lagoon in a simple and imaginative way.
- We will explore the park, examining rocks, sediments, and different soils with magnifying lenses—from dolomite to lagoon clay.
- We will discover how a lagoon is formed, using illustrated worksheets and maps that show its historical evolution.
- We will meet animals of the past by playing with models, images, and fossil remains to understand what mineralization is and how fossils are formed.
- We will unleash our creativity by creating a representation of a fossil using natural materials during a hands-on and creative workshop.
- We will observe minerals up close, listening to stories about their use and their importance for humans, both in the past and today.
