Bike&Hike: Lido and Alberoni

On this bike ride we will discover the island of Lido and its famous coastline, starting from the location of the Venice Film Festival, the oldest in the world, passing through the old and picturesque town of Malamocco, to finally reach a wonderful WWF natural oasis. Moving between shorelines, urban settings and the lagoon, this route will help us understand the multidimensional essence of Venice.

What we will do

  • We will set out to discover the elegant Liberty-style villas and the symbols of the Belle Époque, such as the Excelsior and Des Bains hotels, witnesses to the golden era of tourism on the island

  • Riding our bicycles, we will cross the seafront and pass by the iconic sites of the Film Festival, where international stars parade every year

  • We will cycle along the beach to reach the Murazzi, the impressive 18th-century stone structure made of Istrian stone that has protected the island from the sea’s force for centuries

  • We will arrive in Malamocco, one of the oldest centers of the lagoon and the historical seat of the Dogado before power permanently shifted to Rialto—a place where the primordial Venice can still be felt

  • Next, we will reach the WWF Alberoni Oasis, where we will get off our bikes for a relaxing nature walk among dunes, pine forests, and biodiversity-rich habitats

  • On the return route, we will admire the profile of some of the most fascinating and mysterious islands of the southern lagoon: Poveglia, San Lazzaro degli Armeni, and the Old Lazzaretto
